Minutes of the Downtown Whitewater, Inc. Organization Committee Meeting-August 20, 2007 Whitewater Municipal Center 312 W. Whitewater Street, Whitewater, WI 53190 Members Present-Bill Bowen, Kristine Zaballos, Donna Lentz and Kevin Brunner Brunner called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. 1. Review/Approval of June 12th Meeting Minutes Minutes of June 12th were approved. 2. Discuss Possible Moving of Downtown Whitewater Offices There was considerable discussion regarding the possible moving of the Downtown Whitewater Inc. offices due to issues with the other occupants of the Discover Whitewater building space. Brunner indicated that David Kachel has offered possible store front space on 1st Street just to the south of the Discover Whitewater building. A tour of this space by the committee was set up for August 27th. 3. Website/WIKI Update Zaballos reported that she has been meeting weekly with Scott Gittrich and Bill Bowen on developing Downtown Whitewater’s new website. She said that excellent progress is also being made on the WIKI. Zaballos also announced that Egency will be developing a downtown logo and letterhead. She cited the Ripon Main Street Program as having an outstanding logo and branding program and that Downtown Whitewater was looking at what Ripon has done in the development of its own logo. 4. Fall Board Election There will be four openings on the Downtown Board: John Patterson; Kristine Zaballos; John Kachel and Scott Gittrich. The following process for solicitation of Board nominations and subsequent elections was set by the committee: Solicitation of Nominations from Membership September 15-October 15 Send Ballots to All Members October 26 Return Ballots to DWI Election Review Committee November 2 Announcement of New Board Members November 6 Board Meeting 5. Review Executive Director Recruitment/Selection Process Discussion of the executive director recruitment and selection process took place. A Board subcommittee composed of Russ Devitt, Geoff Hale and Bill Bowen has been delegated the responsibility of conducting this process. It was agreed, however, that Zaballos would survey the Downtown membership as well as the Board as to what qualities they would like in a new executive director. Zaballos also indicated that she would be providing an update to downtown stakeholders on the Executive Director search, highlighting what qualities that the Board was seeking in the new director. The interview process was determined to include an interview with the entire Board, a Wonderlic test (the same used by Home Lumber) and a tour of the City by a city staff member. 6. New Volunteer/Board Member Training & Manual This item was deferred to the next meeting so that it could be discussed with the new executive director (assuming that he or she will be in place by the September meeting). It was announced that the next meeting of the committee would be held on September 18 at 3:30 p.m. Meeting adjourned at 4:20 p.m. Respectfully Submitted, Kevin M. Brunner, Chair
