DWI Board of Directors welcomes two new members
In an election that closed on November 2, Downtown Whitewater stakeholders filled four positions on the DWI Board of Directors: two were new members (Bruce Birling and Jan Bilgen Craggs) and two were previous board members re-elected into new spots.

The Downtown Business Owner slot was filled by Bruce Birling, owner of R & R Music on Main Street, a relatively new business in the downtown. Bruce is replacing Jon Kachel of the Commercial Bank in this position.

Jan Bilgen Craggs, a former Whitewater Common Council member who works in Leadership Development at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, was voted in as the UW-W Representative to the board. This position was previously held by John Patterson.

Elected as Financial Representative to the Board of Directors was Jon Kachel, President of the Commercial Bank. Jon is a founding member of the board, initially elected as a downtown business owner. Nominated both as a downtown business owner and a financial representative, Jon opted to run as a financial representative as it more fully reflected his role on the board. Jon replaces Scott Gittrich, owner of Toppers Pizza.

The Member-at-Large position, whichposition, which was the most hotly contested, was won by John Patterson, a semi-retired at the UW-W. John previously served as the UW-W representative to the board, elected to replace founding board member and former Chancellor Martha Saunders. Because his work at the UW-W is on a part-time basis, John elected to run for the Member-at-Large slot, previously held by Kristine Zaballos.

TREE OF HOPE AND CURE
Twelve Whitewater businesses are providing the opportunity to honor and remember cancer patients with special ornaments this year. A tree placed outside the Whitewater Family Practice Clinic (1305 W. Main Street) will be decorated with silver balls purchased throughout December at any of the twelve participating businesses: Whitewater Family Practice Clinic, Reynolds Pharmacy, McCullough's Prescriptions and Gifts, Sugar Bay Flowers and Gifts, The Sweet Spot, The East Sider, Rick's Eastside Pub, Curves, Commercial Bank, First Citizens State Bank, Floral Villa, and Novak's Restaurant. Purchase a ball at any participating business for a $5 donation to the Whitewater Relay for Life and, if you choose, write the name of the individual you wish to honor or remember on the ball. Balls will then be hung on the tree outside the clinic. TNT Signs, Commercial Bank, Tincher Realty, and others are underwriting the float. Take the opportunity throughout December to honor your friends and relatives affected by cancer, shop locally, and raise money to fight cancer.
