The four Downtown Whitewater committees:
OUR MISSION Downtown Whitewater, Inc.’s mission is to improve and preserve Whitewater’s quality of life by strengthening the historic downtown as the heartbeat of the community through concentrated efforts in organization, education, design and beautification, promotion and overall revitalization.
OUR VISION
WHO WE ARE
Whitewater residents recognize the unique role that a healthy downtown district plays in a community. Established in 2005, Downtown Whitewater, Inc. is the result of over 45 community members and business persons working together with the Whitewater Community Development Authority and the City of Whitewater to address downtown revitalization. Whitewater applied for and received Main Street status from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce in 2006, and subsequently hired its first full-time executive director.
Today, over 150 community members and businesses support Downtown Whitewater as active volunteers on one of the organization’s five teams (Design, Parking, Promotions, Economic Restructuring, Organization) or through their donations. Working together, this organization enjoyed remarkable successes in 2007, ranging from an award-winning historic renovation to the adaptive reuse of a former food store to the publishing of Design Guidelines for downtown renovations and development.
We’ve barely scratched the surface with downtown revitalization: recent efforts have focused on adding residential units to our 2nd and 3rd floors, broadening our retail mix with the nearby UW-W campus firmly in mind, and providing more amenities downtown, such as paddleboats at the Lakefront Park, better parking options, and a shuttle between the campus and the downtown.
