Lodge also reviewed the Power Point presentation that will be made and highlighted the 2006 ORG accomplishments and 2007 ORG goals.
  1. Review of 2007 ORG Goals
The committee briefly reviewed the four ORG goals for 2007 previously set at the Downtown Whitewater planning session in November, 2006. Those objectives are 1) Raise funds previously pledged to the organization; 2) Recruit, train and recognize volunteers; 3) Provide effective internal communications, and 4) Provide effective external communications. The following objectives were set by the committee for the coming year:
  • Plan/Develop 4th of July Parade Presence for Downtown Whitewater, Inc. (to include float and distribution of promotional items promoting downtown)
  • Develop and Publish a Volunteer Manual
  • Develop a Downtown Whitewater Brand
Eric Sobczak, Kristine Zaballos and Jim Stewart respectively were given responsibility to lead each of these projects for the ORG committee.
  1. New Board Seat Selection Process
Kristine Zaballos distributed a draft invitation to solicit nominations for the vacant community-at-large position on the Downtown Whitewater Board of Directors. After a few minor changes, the committee agreed to distribute this invitation at the upcoming Annual update breakfast with all nominations due to be submitted to Allison Lodge by February 2, 2007. The nomination subcommittee (Kristine Zaballos, Bill Bowen and Geoff Hale) will then meet on February 5th to make a recommendation for appointment at the February 6th Board meeting.
  1. 2006 Whitewater Main Street Awards
Kevin Brunner presented a draft nominations form and awards criteria handout for the 2006 Whitewater Main Street Awards program. There will be seven awards to be given: 1) 2006 Main Street Volunteer of the Year; 2) Best Historic Building Restoration Project; 3) Best Building Façade Rehabilitation >$7,500; 4) Best Building Façade Rehabilitation<$7,500; 5) Best Interior Renovation Project; 6) Best Downtown Special Event, and 7) Best Adaptive Reuse Project. These categories mirror the State of Wisconsin Main Street award and it is hoped that a number of the Whitewater award winners would be nominated for state-wide recognition. These State nominations, which are submitted by each local Main Street director, are due in the State Main Street office no later than February 14th. After discussion, the committee set February 2nd as the deadline for submission of all 2006 Whitewater Main Street award nominations. A special meeting of the ORG committee was set for noon, February 2nd to review all nominations and make recommended awards in each category so that Allison Lodge will be able to submit Whitewater nominations to the State Main Street Program by the required due date. It is anticipated that the awards in each category will be recommended to the full Board for its approval at the February 6th meeting. The 2006 Whitewater Main Street nominations material will be presented and be available at the January 19th Annual Update meeting.
  • The committee also set the awards event for Thursday, March 15th from 6 to 8 p.m. with the awards ceremony to take place beginning at 7:00 p.m. Bill Bowen will check into available locations for this event which will have hors-d'oeuvres and a cash bar. The actual awards that will be given to the recipients will also need to be determined.
The committee will need to finalize the publicity for this event and the actual awards at its February 20th meeting. The vent location will be finalized by Bill Bowen as soon as possible.
