2007 Downtown Board election under way There are four Downtown Whitewater board seats up for grabs this year:
Twenty-five nominations were received for these four spots; 10 candidates have agreed to run and are listed on the attached ballot, along with brief bios.
Votes must be cast by Friday, November 2, 5 PM. Cast your ballot by printing it out and faxing it to 262-473-2223 or dropping it off in the boxes provided at the Double Dip Deli or Downtown Whitewater’s office (162 W. Main, Suite L).
Only Downtown Whitewater stakeholders may vote: if you are not currently a donor or volunteer, fill out and sign the volunteer form on the back of the ballot to be able to vote; we will contact you later to find out how you would like to serve. Ballots will be tallied and the results announced at our November 6 board meeting, sent out via email later that day, and posted at www.downtownwhitewater.com.
The four new board members will join Kevin Brunner (ex-officio, City Manager), Bill Bowen (Downtown Business Owner), Russ Devitt (Downtown Business Owner), Geoff Hale (Downtown Property Owner), and Derek Henze (Member-at-Large). Good luck to all of the candidates!
DWI Open House and the Greater Downtown Open
Please join Downtown Whitewater, Inc. and the Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce as we celebrate Business after 5 with our Open House and The Greater Downtown Open on Thursday, November 15. Players can mini-golf through participating Downtown Stores from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm. Awards are from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Check in at the Discover Whitewater Center and "check out" the new Downtown Whitewater, Inc. offices and Downtown Whitewater Director Tami Brodnicki in the Main Street Shops at 6:30.
Throughout the night players will receive coupons to participating businesses, snacks, drinks, and a chance to win great prizes during the Closing Ceremonies upstairs in the Main Street Shops. Cost is $7 for individuals or $20 for a team of 4. Hole sponsorships are available. Please call Deb at the Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce at (262) 473-4005 for registration forms or more information. We’ll see you there!
“Curb Your Anxiety” Day: Friday, November 29
Do the holidays cause you to get very anxious, thinking about everything that you need to get done before Christmas arrives? Or is seasonal affective disorder, also known as winter depression, affecting your mood? If so, please join us on Friday, November 29th at the Wisconsin Community Mental Health Counseling Center in downtown Whitewater (143 W. Main St) from 10 AM – 4PM to talk about it. Anxiety is the most common mental illness in America; you are not alone. So stop by and gather information about better ways to cope. Licensed Professional Counselors will be on staff to answer any questions. For more information contact Jennifer Wuchterl at (262) 473-6119.

· Working on completing an updated handout to describe all downtown vacancies by size, location, and rent.
· Discussing the availability of liquor licenses for potential new restaurants.
· Next meeting: Thursday, November 29, at 5 PM at Commercial Bank.
DESIGN The Design Committee welcomes Attorney Terry Race to the team!
· Continuing our education effort about design and increasing the written information available in the Main Street office.
· Continuing the review of downtown projects to provide advice to building owners, developers, and the plan commission.
· Working with the new Main Street manager on effective communication between the design team and the Main Street board.
· Next meeting: Monday, November 12th, at 8 AM at Whitewater Municipal Building.
