Batter up…. We’re looking for new board members!
Are you ready to step up to the plate? We’d like to have you! There are four Downtown Whitewater board seats open this fall:
  • Downtown Business Owner (currently held by Jon Kachel)
  • Financial Representative (currently Scott Gittrich)
  • UW-W Representative (currently John Patterson)
  • Community Member (currently Kristine Zaballos, who will not be running)

Anyone can make a nomination for these seats; nomination forms are available at the Double Dip Deli and online at www.downtownwhitewater.com, where you will find information on board seat eligibility. Board seats are for 2 years and meetings are monthly. Nominations are due on Friday, October 19, and ballots will be available October 26.

Only Downtown Whitewater donors and volunteers may vote: for details or to volunteer contact our new director, Tami Brodnicki. Ballots will be tallied and the results announced at our November 6 board meeting.

A word from the Director I would like to thank everyone who came out on September 24th to the Downtown Whitewater Meet ‘N Greet to make me feel very welcome in my new position. The food was great and donated by Double Dip Deli and Dan’s Meat Market. Also in my first week on the job I attended the 2007 Tri-State Conference in Platteville, Wisconsin. About 90 of us came together from Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin to discuss cultivating independent businesses, streetscape design, parking, walking routes, professional image, and being financially accountable in order to help revitalize the downtown.

Dan’s Meat Market new to the downtown A local family’s long experience in raising beef and making sausage has led to the opening of Dan’s Meat Market at 210 W. Whitewater Street, occupying two storefronts in the building newly renovated by owner Ryan Hughes. Owners Dan and Kristy Malone operate the meat and cheese shop together with their daughter Heather, who graduated from the UW-W with a degree in meat and animal production. Offerings include home-grown beef, farm-raised chickens, Malone’s own home-made sausage, and a variety of cheeses from Bletsoe Cheese, based in Marathon, WI. Shop hours are Tuesday – Fridays 10 AM to 7 PM and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM to 6 PM (closed Mondays). (262) 458-2117. Stop in soon to welcome them to the downtown!

Downtown Whitewater’s new digs After sharing tight quarters with the Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Council, we’ll be moving across the street to the lower level of the Main Street Shoppes later this month. Look for details and an Open House invitation in our next newsletter.
