Promotion Minutes April 3, 2007
Promotions Committee Meeting Minutes
April 3, 2007
Members Present: Bridget, Ali, Bill, De, Julian, Shane, Therese, Emma Lou, Marty, Linda, Rose, Jill
Cinco De Mayo:
Park & Rec will be having a dance at the Armory from 6 – 8pm for Cinco De Mayo. Other groups seem to be doing their own thing. We will see if they would like our help next year. The entire committee feels we need to have a separate spring promotion other than Cinco De Mayo. Each season should have a separate event. Late April has an open week that has been used in the past for the Arts Alliance. Residents and visitors may be looking for an event the last week of April. A retail event would be ideal. The 3rd Wednesday in May is ‘Ride your bike to work/school day. It was suggested that we could make a retail event out of it.
Taste of Whitewater:
The committee decided to have the Taste of Whitewater on September 15, 2007 on Main Street from 11am – 4pm. There is a football game on 9/8 were we will be handing out flyers and promoting The Taste of Whitewater. The use of the Shuttle would also be a great addition to promote the Taste of Whitewater as well as introducing the Shuttle to the UW students and residents. There will be tickets for purchase of beer and food. Shane and Julian will go to City Hall and speak to Michelle Smith about a liquor license for the day, as well as see about reserving banners for the event. Randy’s showed interest in helping for this event. Randy’s could serve with their license if the City does not allow a liquor license for the event. Therese mentioned ‘Pat McCurdy’ for a larger scale entertainment. Shane mentioned the ‘Love Monkeys’. Julian knows people in the UW Music department for smaller scale entertainment. The large band will play last for up to 3 hours, while the smaller scale bands and entertainers will play 20 minute sets. There will also be ‘sales on the hour’ for certain businesses announced over the PA system to allure people into the downtown businesses. Therese will talk to the merchants, Bill will talk to Chuck Nass about stakes for the tents on Main Street, Ali will call beer sponsors, Bruce Birling also mentioned that he would be happy to help in any way.
