Minutes of the Downtown Whitewater, Inc.
Organization Committee Meeting-September 25, 2007
Whitewater Municipal Center

Members Present-Bill Bowen, Kristine Zaballos, Donna Lentz and Kevin Brunner

Brunner called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.

1. Review/Approval of August 18th Meeting Minutes Minutes of June 12th were approved.

2. Discuss Possible Moving of Downtown Whitewater Offices Bowen indicated that he was negotiating a final lease with Geoff Hale of Home Lumber for the lease of the space located at 162 W. Main Street (Suite J) for the Downtown Main Street office. The cost will be $300 per month which will be in effect until the end of 2008. Brunner stated he will need to meet with the Whitewater Area of Commerce, Whitewater Tourism Council and Whitewater Spirit Shop to discuss continuance of the leasing of the Discover Whitewater Building. Bowen will finalize the lease and will present to the Downtown Board for approval at its October 2nd meeting.

3. Website/WIKI Update Zaballos reported that web pages have now been developed for each standing committee and that the downtown design guidelines will be posted soon. Enecie is still working on the logo and letterhead and first drafts will be available soon. The subcommittee of Scott Gittrich, Bill Bowen and Zaballos along with Exec. Director Tami Brodnicki will continue to work on this project and will report back to the Board when final decisions will need to be made.

4. Fall Board Election There will be four openings on the Downtown Board: John Patterson; Kristine Zaballos; John Kachel and Scott Gittrich. The following process for solicitation of Board nominations and subsequent elections was set by the committee:

Solicitation of Nominations from Membership September 15-October 15
Send Ballots to All Members October 26
Return Ballots to DWI Election Review Committee November 2
Announcement of New Board Members November 6 Board Meeting

Zaballos will make sure that the nominations process is carried out as planned and Bowen and Lentz will serve on the ballot tabulation committee. It was also agreed by the committee that a recommendation be made to change the bylaws to hold the annual meeting of Downtown Whitewater in February rather than in December as currently stipulated.

5. Business Welcome Program It was decided that plants be sent to all new downtown businesses and that Brodnicki be requested to develop a new business welcome program with the Chamber of Commerce.

6. New Volunteer/Board Member Training & Manual Zaballos presented the recommended volunteer and board training process and information packets. This process and information packet will be brought to the full Board for approval in November. Brunner announced that Stuart Charland of First Citizens Bank ahs agreed to join the committee. Brunner indicated that he would like to add at least two more members to the committee in the near future. Someone from UW-W student government, a representative of the Latino downtown business community and Atty. Dick Kelly were mentioned as possible future committee members.

It was announced that the next meeting of the committee would be held on October 16 at 3:30 p.m. at the new downtown office if ready by then.
