organization
As part of the Main Street approach, Organization involves getting everyone working toward the same goal and assembling the appropriate human and financial resources to implement a Main Street revitalization program. A governing board and standing committees make up the fundamental organizational structure of the volunteer-driven program. Volunteers are coordinated and supported by a paid program director as well. This structure not only divides the workload and clearly delineates responsibilities, but also builds consensus and cooperation among the various stakeholders.
The Organization Team also works to build a Main Street framework that is well represented by civic groups, merchants, bankers, citizens, public officials, and chambers of commerce. Everyone must work together to renew downtown. A strong organization provides the stability to build and maintain a long-term effort.
Specific to Whitewater's Main Street program, the Organization Team is the engine that drove the formation of the Board of Directors, guided the successful application to the Wisconsin Main Street program, and provided most of the information about the program's efforts during the critical initial phase.
In 2007, the team's objectives are to:
1. provide internal communications and support
2. provide external communication
3. recruit, train, and recognize volunteers, including board members
4. raise funds
Current Organization team members:
Kevin Brunner (team chair): Whitewater City Manager; kbrunner@ci.whitewater.wi.us
Bill Bowen: owner, Double Dip Deli; bill@doubledipdeli.com
Donna Lentz: Associated Bank; donna.lentz@associatedbank.com
Kristine Zaballos: Community Member; kristine@zaballos.com
The Organization Team meets once a month, generally on a Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 PM. All are welcome! If you are interested in joining, please contact our team chair, Kevin Brunner.
